フィンの幼名デムナは「ダマジカ」を意味し、息子のオシーンは「子鹿」を、孫のオスカーは「鹿を可愛がる者」を意味する。また妻のサーバは鹿に変えられるなどフィンと鹿の関係を示す要素は多い。マルカルはこれを先史文明におけるシカ信仰と結びついているとしている<ref>マルカル, 2001, p79</ref>。
